Nealy all the Hairston family papers are held at the Southern Historical Collection (SHC), Manuscripts Department, Wilson Library, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A few Hairston items reside in the collections of the Virginia Historical Society, Richmond, and the Alderman Library Special Collections, University of Virginia, Charlottesville.
